Verbal Reasoning / Argument
Read an argument like an examiner: separate premises from conclusions, then judge the logic.
01
Anatomy of an argument
Indicator words: ‘therefore’, ‘so’, ‘thus’ → conclusion. ‘Because’, ‘since’, ‘given that’ → premise.
02
Reading tactics
- Find the conclusion first — it's often the strong claim.
- Underline or list the premises in order.
- Ask: do the premises actually force the conclusion, or is there a gap?
- If a gap, name the missing assumption.

Argument: ‘The road is wet, so it must have rained.’ Identify the conclusion and missing assumption.
Жауап пен түсініктемені көру
Жауап: Conclusion: it rained. Assumption: rain is the only thing that makes the road wet (ignoring sprinklers, spills).
Spotting the alternative cause is the standard CT move.
